WQAC Regional Health Review

February 2024

Building sustainable communities

The WQAC Regional Health Review provides a snapshot of the health and wellbeing of people in the Region, including an overview of service delivery and service gaps, examples of innovation and good practice, and outlines how local government and the community can assist in reducing preventable disease.

The Review highlights the importance of quality data to identify problems and solutions, illustrate impact and justify investment, and provides a number of options for improving health outcomes and health equity for the people of this Region.

The report is a snapshot of the disease burden, risk factors, and options for improving health equity. Health equity means that people have a fair and just opportunity to attain their full health potential and may need different levels and types of support to reduce disadvantage.

The paper has three key recommendations:

  • To establish a Health Equity Forum where regional health service providers, stakeholders, councils, and the community work in partnership through action and advocacy, to improve health and wellbeing in Western Queensland.

  • To focus on improved coordination of service delivery, exploration of innovative options to improve outcomes for clients, achieving greater efficiency in spending through increased integration and collaboration amongst health service providers.

  • To set a target for the reduction of the current disease burden faced by residents of Western Queensland.
