QUEENSLAND HOUSING SUMMIT

**United Western Queensland leaders representing 22 local governments, and 60% of the state** - Mayors Tony Rayner, Samantha O’Toole and Jack Bawden at the Queensland Housing Summit.

Our three member Regional Organisation of Councils Chairs - Mayor Jack Bawden (NWQROC), Mayor Samantha O’Toole (SWQROC) and Mayor Tony Rayner (RAPAD) - represented a collective 22 Western Queensland Alliance of Councils at the Queensland Housing Summit hosted in Brisbane on 20 October 2022.

Housing issues across the state including in Western Queensland council areas were discussed in depth at the Queensland Housing Summit. The event brought together all level’s government, industry and housing stakeholders working through solutions in the short and long term.

While attending the summit, our Chairs took the opportunity to speak with Mike Kaiser, Director-General of the Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning, about the need for financial support for councils to build the essential infrastructure to bring individual residential blocks to market to facilitate housing development in rural and remote centres. We were pleased to also have Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk MP taking the opportunity to join the conversation.

WQAC Housing Summit Submission

The Western Queensland Alliance of Councils welcomed the opportunity to make a submission to the Department of Premier and Cabinet in the lead up to the Queensland Housing Summit on 20 October 2022.
